Kylie Jenner's Victoria’s Secret debut prompts debate over model selection
Kylie Jenner's appearance in a Fantasy Bra valued at $50 million divided viewers of the Victoria’s Secret show. Some fans welcomed the television star, while others believed a professional model should have received the role, the BBC reported.
Jenner, 29, made her debut at the brand's show on October 18. Created with Jacob & Co., the bra features 18-carat gold and 4410 diamonds, according to the designers cited by the BBC.
Social media marketing expert Joel Marlinarson told the BBC that the choice reflected brands' efforts to attract attention through celebrities. He said younger viewers know Jenner through social media and reality television, while audiences attached to the supermodel era may respond differently.
Victoria’s Secret chief creative officer Adam Selman told Vogue that Jenner was selected for her influence beyond fashion and television. The Fantasy Bra returned to the runway for the first time since 2018.
