Lula challenges Bolsonaro to disclose banking and phone records
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva challenged rival Flávio Bolsonaro to disclose banking and phone records for both candidates and their families before the presidential runoff.
The proposal came during Sunday's televised debate after Bolsonaro accused Lula's government of corruption. Lula said he was prepared to reveal information about his own bank accounts and those of his relatives if his opponent did the same.
Lula proposed starting the disclosure the following day and submitting documents to judicial authorities for assessment before voting. According to news agency Estado, Bolsonaro said he had nothing to hide but did not confirm acceptance of the proposed terms.
Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, won 47.03% in the October 4 opening round, ahead of Lula's 45.16%. Neither cleared the 50% threshold. The runoff is scheduled for October 25.
