Police investigate complaint alleging abuse of calf near Coimbatore

Police in Tamil Nadu received a farmer’s complaint after a surveillance camera recorded a man leading a calf out of a cowshed. The complainant alleges the animal was abused repeatedly.

The incident was reported on Monday night in the Karamadai area of Coimbatore district. The Hindu said a farmer from nearby Chinna Vadavalli complained to police about suspected sexual abuse of a calf. The complaint alleges that a migrant worker employed at a local industrial unit may have been involved. The newspaper reported the allegation as the complainant’s account, not as a finding of guilt.

According to a source quoted by the newspaper, the family found the calf loose in the shed several times over a period of about three months. After residents noticed a stranger near the cowshed at night, they installed a motion-detection camera. The recording reportedly showed a man leading the calf out of the building.

The family did not catch him immediately after the camera alert, but noticed clothes in a bucket near the shed. Local residents later detained the man when he returned to collect them and handed him over to Karamadai police. The Hindu, citing an officer with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, reported that the man was from Bihar and had worked at the industrial unit for about nine months.

A government veterinarian examined the calf and collected samples for laboratory testing. Police received the farmer’s complaint and registered it. At the time of The Hindu’s report, police sources said the suspect was expected to be arrested soon. The newspaper did not report test results or further developments in the investigation.
