Maresca says he is calm after Manchester City verdict

Manchester City head coach Enzo Maresca said he remains calm after an independent commission found the club guilty of breaching Premier League financial rules. He said the team is focused on its upcoming match against Liverpool.

“Personally, I am very calm. The club has given a clear assessment, and we trust the club completely,” Maresca said. He added that the players understand the noise around the club is inevitable but are focused on what they can control: football. The club published his comments.

The coach said the team is now thinking about how to withstand Liverpool’s pressure and try to win at Anfield with the support of the fans. He said the players know their profession well and are trying not to be distracted by outside discussion.

On September 29, the Premier League said an independent commission had found Manchester City guilty of all charges relating to serious breaches of its financial rules and most of the charges concerning non-cooperation with the investigation. Sport-Express reported that the decision covered 114 of the 115 charges brought against the club. The alleged breaches span the 2009/10 through 2017/18 seasons.

Manchester City rejected the findings and said it intended to appeal. No sanctions had been set at the time of publication.
