Mason Miller returns to Padres roster ahead of Game 4 against Brewers

San Diego has reinstated its closer after a paternity leave, making him available for Game 4 of the NL Division Series. The Padres trail Milwaukee 2-1.

The club announced Miller’s return on Wednesday and removed Wandy Rodriguez from the roster. Miller went on the paternity list before Game 3. San Diego won that game 4-3 to avoid elimination, with starting pitcher Michael King recording a two-inning save.

Miller had blown a save in Game 2. After retiring his first four batters, he walked three of the next four and gave up a two-run single to Jackson Chourio. Milwaukee won 4-3 in walk-off fashion to take a 2-0 series lead. CBS Sports reported that Miller had three days of rest before Game 4.

Miller recorded 38 saves and a 1.67 ERA in the regular season. Left-hander Adrián Morejón, another key San Diego reliever, has not pitched since Game 1. Manager Mike Shildt said Morejón was still feeling stiffness in his shoulder, but the club hoped to assess his availability before Game 4.

Shildt said the team would not use Morejón if he was not fully ready. The Padres also have relievers Jason Adam and Bradgley Rodriguez available.
