Matviyenko visits Turkmenistan for CIS events

The Federation Council speaker is due to attend an international forum on women’s role in peacebuilding and a conference on universal health coverage.

TURKMENBASHI, Oct. 6. Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko has arrived in Turkmenistan for a working visit and will attend events held as part of the country’s chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the upper house of parliament’s press service said.

Her schedule includes the international forum “The Role of Women in Promoting Peace and Achieving Sustainable Development” and a conference on universal health coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals. The conference is organized by the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, the World Health Organization’s Regional Office for Europe and Turkmenistan’s Mejlis.

Matviyenko is also scheduled to meet Mejlis Chairperson Dunyagozel Gulmanova. The Russian delegation includes Federation Council Deputy Speaker Inna Svyatenko, Science, Education and Culture Committee Chair Liliya Gumerova, and Vladimir Dzhabarov, first deputy chair of the International Affairs Committee.
