The family of Marco Aurélio Cardenas Acosta said São Paulo state’s regional medical council posthumously presented him with professional medical credentials.
CNN Brasil reported that the president of the regional medical council presented the document at an event on Oct. 8. The outlet said it contacted CREMESP but received no response by publication time.
Acosta was a fifth-year medical student at Anhembi Morumbi University. He was 22. He died on Nov. 20, 2024, after being shot by a military police officer at a hotel in São Paulo’s Vila Mariana district.
The police report gave officers’ account that Acosta tried to take one of their guns. Hotel security footage previously reported by local media did not show him reaching for the revolver. CREMESP said in September that his family had asked the council to help clarify the circumstances of his death. The council said authorities should reach conclusions after the investigation and legal proceedings are complete.
