The American skier calls the coming season an “exploration” and plans to race giant slalom and super-G more often while keeping slalom on her schedule.
Mikaela Shiffrin plans to put more focus on giant slalom and super-G in the coming season, German news agency dpa reported. The American skier described the season as a chance to explore a different balance between disciplines.
Shiffrin, 31, won the slalom at the 2026 Winter Olympics and also took Olympic gold in the discipline in PyeongChang in 2018. She has won the World Cup slalom title nine times. She also won the Olympic giant slalom in 2018.
The women’s World Cup season is set to open with a giant slalom in Sölden on Oct. 24. Shiffrin plans to make her first slalom start on Nov. 29 in Killington, Vermont, and decide on the rest of her schedule afterward. Reuters previously reported that the World Cup season would begin in Sölden in late October.
