Salem adds 28 BS6 buses with tracking and door-safety features

The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation has put 28 new BS6 buses into service in Salem, adding vehicles equipped with reverse cameras, GPS-based tracking and systems that prevent operation while doors are open.

Transport Minister A. Vijay Tamilan Parthiban inaugurated the buses at Salem Old Bus Stand on Friday. The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation’s Salem division is using them to replace older vehicles. District Collector K. Elambahavath and transport officials attended the launch.

The buses have air suspension, reverse cameras and Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTD), which use GPS to monitor their location. A door-safety feature is designed to keep a bus from moving while its doors are open. The minister said the additions were intended to improve passenger comfort and safety and meet Salem’s city transport needs.

Parthiban also said the state was extending routes and adding services to keep villages connected and serve the daily travel needs of students, women and workers. Corporation Managing Director A. Krishnamoorthy, General Manager V. Sivakumar and Technical and Corporate General Manager N. Kalaivanan were among those present.
