Minnikhanov and Silva discuss return of international events to Kazan

Tatarstan head Rustam Minnikhanov met European Aquatics President Antonio Silva on October 14 to discuss prospects for international competitions returning to Kazan.

World Aquatics adviser Viktor Huszar and European Aquatics vice-president Erkan Yalcin also attended. The Tatarstan leader's press service reported the talks.

Minnikhanov reaffirmed the republic's readiness to host high-level events. The press service said Kazan retains the right to stage the European Championships in 2028. The meeting announcement did not establish a new competition calendar.

The international federation representatives inspected the city's sporting infrastructure accompanied by Vladimir Salnikov, first deputy chairman of the Russian Aquatics Federation.

Kazan previously hosted the 2013 Summer Universiade, the 2015 World Aquatics Championships and the 2021 European Short Course Swimming Championships. The world championships originally planned there for 2025 were moved to Singapore.
