More than 5,000 Belarusian-linked businesses operate in Smolensk region

More than 5,000 companies and organisations with Belarusian capital operate in Russia’s Smolensk region, Governor Vasily Anokhin said after meeting Belarusian Sberbank board chairman Yevgeny Yeliseyev.

Anokhin said the region is expanding opportunities for Belarusian businesses. He cited industrial cooperation, agriculture, logistics and machine-building, along with supplies of passenger, municipal and road vehicles.

One planned project is a multi-brand centre in Smolensk to sell and service equipment made in Belarus. The regional authorities said they would support Belarusian companies seeking to establish operations in the region.

The region is offering sites with infrastructure and incentives for local production, Anokhin said. He named the Phoenix industrial park, the Stabna special economic zone and the Safonovo industrial park. Some tenants at Phoenix are already Belarusian companies.
