Moscow reports 2.5 million water quality tests since start of year

Moscow specialists have carried out 2.5 million water quality tests since the start of 2026, deputy mayor for utilities and improvement Pyotr Biryukov said on October 14.
Biryukov said water was assessed against 200 physical, chemical and biological parameters. He said the tests confirmed that water supplied to residents met the applicable requirements and standards.
Monitoring covers the entire route from the water source through treatment stations to the distribution network. Alongside laboratory testing, more than 600 automatic monitoring instruments take measurements around the clock.
Analyser readings enter a unified information system, enabling specialists to adjust treatment processes when necessary. Results are also sent to the city’s social and hygienic monitoring system.
According to the figures Biryukov provided, Moscow consumes almost three million cubic metres of water daily and has roughly 13,000 kilometres of water pipes. He linked the need for continuous monitoring to the system’s scale.
