Nana Patekar cremated with state honors at his farmhouse

Nana Patekar was cremated with state honors at his farmhouse in Donje, Pune district, late on October 8. Thousands attended the farewell, The Hindu reported on October 9.
His son Malhar performed the last rites. Patekar's aides said the actor had previously expressed a wish to be cremated at the farmhouse. Mourners chanted words meaning “Long live Nana.”
Patekar died early on October 8 at his home in Goa, aged 75. The Hindu reported that doctors suspected a heart attack, identifying it as a preliminary explanation. His film roles included Krantiveer and Khamoshi: The Musical.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid tribute at Pune International Airport when the actor's remains arrived from Goa. After the ceremony, Malhar said his father had taught people to unite and act for humanity's benefit. He pledged to continue the work of Naam Foundation, which assists farmers in drought-prone areas.
Attendees included Sunetra Pawar, Ramdas Athawale, Murlidhar Mohol, Chandrakant Patil, Uday Samant, Madhuri Misal and Sunil Tatkare. Naam Foundation co-founder Makarand Anaspure, Tukaram Mundhe, Jackie Shroff, Sajid, Anil Sharma and Sajid Nadiadwala also attended, alongside figures from cinema, politics, sport and social work.
