Netanyahu demands investigation into sources of Gaza documentary NAZA

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on October 11 called for an investigation into anonymous military sources who participated in NAZA, a documentary about the war in Gaza, and demanded their prosecution.

The request was directed to the leadership of the Israeli military, the Shin Bet security service and the attorney general. Netanyahu alleged possible information-security offences, defamation and damage to Israel’s diplomatic and security interests. Reports of his demand do not establish that a case has been opened or charges filed.

The film draws on testimony from 24 unnamed Israeli military sources. They accuse the army of causing civilian deaths through the use of artificial-intelligence targeting systems. Those allegations are disputed.

Netanyahu described the documentary as false and biased. The Israeli military rejected its accusations and questioned the reliability of the anonymous contributors.

NAZA won a special jury prize at the Venice Film Festival and received a 25-minute standing ovation. Its title comes from an abbreviated military term for expected civilian casualties in airstrikes.
