Sydney police find suspected knife and prepare more arrests in father’s killing

Police investigating the fatal stabbing of a Sydney father said on October 12 that they had found a suspected weapon and expected further arrests.

Superintendent Darrin Batchelor said the 36-year-old was returning from work when he stopped to speak with young people he knew through family friends. He went to withdraw money to help them get home, police said, before another group allegedly took offence.

Investigators recovered a knife from a drain outside a Cabramatta apartment block. ABC reported that forensic testing had yet to establish whether it was the weapon used.

A 13-year-old has been charged with murder, while a 16-year-old faces an accessory-after-the-fact charge. Batchelor said police were preparing to arrest at least two other people allegedly involved in assaulting the victim. The investigation continues.
