Neymar scores twice as Santos draw 2-2 with Flamengo

Santos and Flamengo drew 2-2 in the 29th round of Brazil’s top flight. Neymar, back after more than a month out, converted two penalties to erase the visitors’ two-goal lead.

Flamengo went into halftime two goals ahead. Danilo finished a move involving Lucas Paquetá, Samuel Lino and Pedro, and Paquetá later headed in a cross from Jorge Carrascal. Neymar’s introduction after the break helped Santos press forward.

The turning point came when Jorginho was sent off. Referee Anderson Daronco awarded a penalty after a VAR review, and Neymar converted it to cut the deficit. Santos earned another spot kick later after a set-piece and a foul on Gabigol. Neymar scored again.

Daronco added 14 minutes, but neither side found a winner. Flamengo stayed top with 61 points, although Palmeiras had a chance to close the gap in its match against Bahia. Santos moved to 42 points and missed an opportunity to draw closer to the top four.

Santos are due to visit Atlético Mineiro on October 11. Flamengo host Fluminense later the same day.
