Novorossiysk reports oil-product cleanup completed at two shoreline sites

Authorities in Novorossiysk said on October 16 that oil-product deposits had been removed from Abrau Beach and Myskhako. The municipal management centre reported that around 300 metres of coastline had been cleaned.

The work involved 53 people and six vehicles. Municipal rescue-service employees, city administration representatives and volunteers took part.

The regional emergency headquarters first reported small oil-product deposits on the shore on October 14. Specialists collected samples to analyse their composition and origin.

At that time, the headquarters said the deposits were unrelated to the cargo of a tanker attacked on October 6.

Monitoring of beaches and the coastline will continue. Specialists and volunteers will resume cleanup if new deposits are found, the municipal centre said.
