Off-duty ICE agent arrested after being shot during alleged Fresno assault

Fresno police say an off-duty ICE agent was wounded by a homeowner and arrested after allegedly attacking the man and his daughter early on October 9.
Police identified the agent as David Gonzalez, 32, of Texas. According to their account, the woman returned home and found him sleeping on the front lawn. Her 72-year-old father went outside to tell him to leave. Gonzalez appeared intoxicated and agitated when he woke and allegedly assaulted both residents.
The father fired once, hitting Gonzalez in the midsection, police said. The daughter's boyfriend, an off-duty police officer, arrived and handcuffed him before responding Fresno officers found him wounded. An ambulance took Gonzalez for treatment. Police said he remained in custody on felony assault allegations.
Investigators said the father feared for his own safety and his daughter's safety and legally possessed the firearm. He was not facing criminal charges based on their findings. Police had not released the residents' names and were evaluating their injuries. Detectives continued seeking witnesses and video as they investigated the confrontation.
