Delhi police registered a case against Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and several others over an alleged entry into the Akashvani Bhavan complex during an opposition protest.
The trigger was an INDIA bloc march on Tuesday from Parliament toward the Election Commission of India, Dawn reported, citing The Hindu. Police said protesters crossed barricades and ignored orders to disperse. About 260 people, including 10 lawmakers, were detained after the march.
The demonstration was part of a campaign calling for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to resign. Opposition parties accuse the Bharatiya Janata Party and the election commission of manipulating voter rolls. The commission and the BJP reject those allegations.
The Associated Press earlier reported Rahul Gandhi’s detention during the protests and the dispute over a revision of voter lists. Reports about the case describe the police allegation of unlawful entry. The allegation remains to be considered through the legal process.
