Ratna Singh alleges confinement before CJP protest and seeks police case

CJP legal team head Ratna Singh said police prevented her from leaving her home on October 10 before a protest against India’s election commissioner. She later approached a court seeking a case against police personnel, ThePrint and LiveLaw reported.
Singh said officers arrived at her home that morning and did not produce an official notice when asked. She said she refused to leave her car while police neither took her away nor allowed her to depart.
She alleged that more than 25 officers surrounded the vehicle. CJP also reported the detention of three other lawyers. Describing the restrictions as illegal detention is Singh’s and the party’s position, rather than an established court finding.
ThePrint reported that her filing before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate at Saket court described restrictions outside her home in Jangpura Extension. She intended to join other advocates at a protest outside the Supreme Court. LiveLaw also confirmed the application seeking registration of an FIR against police personnel.
The episode came amid reports that YouTuber Dhruv Rathee had been detained in Gurugram and security measures tightened in Delhi. CJP demanded Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Delhi police refused permission for the Jantar Mantar demonstration, citing public order, safety and traffic management. Singh’s application does not itself establish that a police case has been registered or that a court has ruled the officers’ actions unlawful.
