Płock court sets Nov. 3 opening for trial in Mława teenager’s killing

A court in Płock has scheduled the trial of 18-year-old Bartosz G., accused of killing 16-year-old Maja K., to begin on November 3. The organizational hearing was held on October 7.

The accused, his lawyer, a prosecutor, the girl’s parents and their representatives attended the organizational hearing. It lasted about four hours and took place in a specially secured courtroom outside the main court building. Poland’s PAP news agency reported that 12 further hearings have been scheduled, with the last currently set for April 28, 2027.

The family’s lawyer, Wojciech Kasprzyk, asked for the trial to be open, with only discussion of the direct circumstances of the girl’s death held in private. The court will consider the request at the first hearing. Maja’s mother told reporters she wanted justice and found it painful to see the accused. Her father said that, in his view, the accused smiled in the courtroom.

The accused has denied the charge and refused to give an explanation, PAP reported. A psychiatric assessment found him fit to stand trial. The court extended his pretrial detention until January 17, 2027. If convicted, he faces 15 to 30 years in prison. His guilt has not been established by a court.
