Palani station reopens after ₹20.15 crore upgrade

The redeveloped Palani railway station in Tamil Nadu was inaugurated on October 11 with Narendra Modi participating remotely. The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme upgrade cost ₹20.15 crore, equivalent to 201.5 million rupees.

Southern Railway's Madurai Division announced completion of the work in a Sunday release. The entrance area now has an arch, an improved approach road, pedestrian pathways and covered walkways.

The area outside the station was redesigned with wider traffic lanes. Separate covered parking areas spanning nearly 960 square metres can accommodate 14 cars and 310 two-wheelers.

The station building received facade repairs, painting, canopies and access ramps. Waiting facilities, drinking water arrangements and toilets were improved. A new 240-square-metre waiting hall provides space for 72 passengers.

A six-metre-wide footbridge links platform 1 with platforms 2 and 3. Two lifts, each accommodating 13 people, were installed at the existing three-metre-wide bridge to improve access for passengers with limited mobility and those carrying luggage.

Platform work included additional shelters and changes to existing ones. Digital passenger information terminals, train indicators and coach-position boards were installed to display arrivals, departures and carriage locations.

Modi joined the opening from Chennai. Palani was inaugurated alongside upgraded stations at Paramakudi, Vellore Cantonment, Ambasamudram and Namakkal during his visit to the state.
