In advice published on Oct. 7, a specialist recommends checking grains, nuts and dried fruit at the first signs of pantry moths, discarding open or suspicious packages, and washing the cabinets.
Pest-control specialist Alexander Iyutin recommends washing shelves with soapy water. Pay particular attention to joints, hinges and narrow gaps where pupae may remain. Flying adult moths should also be eliminated.
Check all dry food supplies, including grains, nuts and dried fruit. Iyutin specifically recommends inspecting dried apples and herbs. Discard open packages and any that raise suspicion.
If moths appear in several parts of the kitchen, the specialist recommends treating the room. Iyutin also advises ensuring dried foods are thoroughly dry and contain no excess moisture.
