easyJet flight returns to Liverpool after co-pilot falls ill

easyJet flight U23385, bound from Liverpool to Fuerteventura, turned back shortly after takeoff and requested priority landing at its departure airport. The co-pilot became ill about 20 minutes into the flight, specialist aviation outlet Airlive reported.

The Airbus A320, registration G-UZEF, departed Liverpool John Lennon Airport at 7:30 a.m. local time for Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands.

Airlive said the first part of the flight was uneventful. About 20 minutes after takeoff, while the aircraft was climbing over the United Kingdom, the crew declared an emergency. The captain interrupted the route and requested priority landing at the departure airport.

The report said a sudden medical problem left the co-pilot unable to continue working. It did not say how he was doing after landing or what arrangements were made for passengers on flight U23385.
