Pedestrian overpass partly collapses after truck crash near Kazan

The incident occurred near Koshchakovo on the Kazan–Shemordan road; two people were reported injured and traffic was restricted.

A pedestrian overpass partly collapsed near the Tatarstan village of Koshchakovo after a truck struck its supporting structure above the Kazan–Shemordan road, the region’s Emergencies Ministry office said. Preliminary information indicated that the truck hit a support, causing part of the structure to fall onto the road.

The ministry reported two people injured: the truck’s driver and passenger. The passenger declined hospitalisation. Rescue workers, firefighters, traffic police and ambulance crews were at the scene.

Traffic was restricted on the affected stretch and a detour was arranged. RBC reported that the Pestrechinsky district prosecutor’s office had opened an inquiry and sent the district prosecutor to the scene. The office said it would assess the actions of those responsible for maintaining the road structure.
