Peskov says Putin–Trump meeting at APEC is not yet agreed

A meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump on the sidelines of the APEC summit in China has not yet been agreed, Dmitry Peskov said on October 14. Talks could be discussed if both leaders attend together.

The Russian presidential spokesman did not announce an agreed date or agenda for a bilateral meeting. His remarks concerned a possible contact during the summit rather than scheduled negotiations.

Peskov also addressed a potential three-way meeting involving Putin, Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. He said there was recognition of the format's usefulness, but the leaders' schedules and a possible agenda remained uncertain.

Asked about reducing nuclear arsenals in a trilateral format, Peskov said such discussions were unlikely. He attributed this to Beijing's position that China's arsenal is not comparable with those of Russia and the United States.

Peskov said Moscow respected China's position. The statement did not announce new arms-control agreements or Chinese participation in negotiations to reduce nuclear stockpiles.
