Poland says it is ready to fund permanent US base

Poland is prepared to cover the cost of establishing a permanent US military base, Deputy Defence Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka told RMF FM on October 14.
She said American representatives had inspected potential locations and that Polish authorities were preparing corresponding legislation. She linked the willingness to pay to the security benefits she expected from a base.
Sobkowiak-Czarnecka said she would not be surprised by some reduction in the US military presence in Europe, but did not expect that to affect Poland’s part of the continent. This was her assessment rather than an announced American plan.
Poland’s Defence Ministry had previously said it expected a decision on a permanent base before the end of 2026. The deputy minister did not announce US approval, a selected location, construction costs or a starting date.
