Powder mailings target election offices in three US states

Officials in Ohio, Louisiana and Oklahoma reported suspicious powder mailings ahead of the midterm elections. The FBI is investigating the letters, NBC News and UPI reported.

Louisiana and Oklahoma discovered the mailings on October 13. In Baton Rouge, an Elections Division employee opened a package containing white powder. Louisiana secretary of state spokesperson Trey Williams said the employee was taken to an emergency room as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

In Ohio, postal inspectors intercepted a letter addressed to the secretary of state's office. Frank LaRose disclosed the interception on October 14 and said county election boards had been advised to remain vigilant.

NBC News reported no evidence of harmful substances. The Oklahoma State Election Board said the incident would not affect its ability to conduct elections. Voters will elect the entire House of Representatives and fill thirty-five Senate seats on November 3.
