Pete Prisco of CBS Sports has made his picks for NFL Week 5 after a rough previous round. He went 9–7 straight up and 4–11–1 against the spread last week. His season records stand at 38–26–0 straight up and 25–37–2 against the spread. The following selections are his predictions; the listed lines are from DraftKings, and kickoff times are Eastern.
The week opens Thursday with Tampa Bay at Dallas. The Buccaneers are 0–4 and are expected to start rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels on the road. The Cowboys are coming off a win over Houston, and Prisco expects Dak Prescott to keep the offense moving. Pick: Dallas 34, Tampa Bay 14.
Philadelphia meets Jacksonville in London. Prisco points to the Eagles’ injuries, their loss to the Rams and right tackle Lane Johnson’s retirement. He expects Jacksonville’s defense, ranked second in points allowed and effective against the run, to contain Philadelphia. Pick: Jaguars 28, Eagles 16.
Chicago visits Green Bay. Prisco says the Bears’ strong rushing attack may not compensate for Caleb Williams’ absence. He expects Jordan Love to have a productive passing game and picks the Packers to win 27–24.
Both Houston and Tennessee enter at 0–4. Prisco expects another close game for the Titans but believes C.J. Stroud will make the decisive plays late. Pick: Texans 23, Titans 17.
Cincinnati’s receivers Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase were injured against Jacksonville, though both could return. Prisco thinks the Bengals can move the ball even if they are unavailable, while Miami remains short-handed. Pick: Bengals 23, Dolphins 13.
Las Vegas faces a long trip to New England after a difficult divisional loss. Prisco says the Patriots looked better against Buffalo, with Drake Maye finding his rhythm, and expects that to continue. Pick: Patriots 28, Raiders 24.
Minnesota travels to New Orleans unbeaten. The Saints are coming off a poor loss to Atlanta and have significant defensive injuries. Prisco thinks Kyler Murray may take advantage but still picks the Vikings to win 24–17.
Cleveland has won three straight and is 3–1, while the Jets have lost three in a row. New York returns home after two road games, which Prisco sees as a factor. He expects a better offensive showing and picks the Jets to upset the Browns, 20–16.
Indianapolis has won two straight but faces a road game in Pittsburgh after beating Washington in London. Prisco sees the short turnaround as a disadvantage and expects the rested Steelers, led by Aaron Rodgers, to win 33–23.
Prisco gives the Giants the edge over Washington, 26–24. Jayden Daniels may play for the Commanders but would wear an elbow brace. New York is 3–1, and Prisco expects Jameis Winston to lead the Giants to a fourth win.
The Chargers are winless and host Denver, which is playing its second consecutive road game after losing to San Francisco. Prisco expects Denver’s offensive problems to continue and picks Los Angeles to win 23–17.
Detroit visits Arizona after a Sunday-night loss. Prisco says neither defense has been reliable and expects a shootout, with Jared Goff leading the Lions to a 40–31 win.
San Francisco visits Seattle in a major divisional matchup. The 49ers are unbeaten and have played well in Seattle, but Prisco considers the Seahawks healthier and expects their defense to make the difference late. Pick: Seattle 28, San Francisco 21.
Baltimore could be without Lamar Jackson, who injured his ankle last week. Tyler Huntley would start if Jackson cannot play, with Derrick Henry carrying more of the load. Prisco expects the Ravens to rally either way and picks them to beat Atlanta 24–17.
Buffalo and the Los Angeles Rams close the week on Monday. The Bills are coming off a loss to New England, while the Rams rallied to beat Philadelphia. Prisco expects Josh Allen and Matthew Stafford to produce and picks the Rams to win 28–24.
