Psychologist Elena Skripacheva recommends reading to engage memory and attention

Psychologist Elena Skripacheva recommended regular reading to exercise memory and attention, Lenta.ru reported on October 10, citing her conversation with RT.

Skripacheva, an associate professor with a research degree in psychology, said reading requires sustained attention and mental engagement. She also said it may help reduce stress.

She suggested setting aside roughly 30 minutes each day to build a reading habit. That is the specialist's recommendation, rather than an established medical threshold for preventing cognitive disease.

The National Institute on Aging includes reading and other intellectually stimulating activities among ways of keeping the brain active. Research links such engagement to possible cognitive health benefits, but causal effects and preventive potential need further study.

Regular reading can therefore be regarded as a useful activity without guaranteeing protection against memory decline or dementia. Describing the advice as a proven way of preventing disease would be inaccurate.
