Mourinho skips press conference after Vinicius dismissal in Madrid win

Jose Mourinho did not attend the post-match press conference after Real Madrid beat Villarreal 1-0. CBS Sports reported that the coach wanted to avoid a possible suspension over his remarks.

The October 10 match turned contentious when Vinicius Junior scored but a video review revealed that he had pulled Nathan Saliba's hair in the build-up. The goal was disallowed and the Brazilian forward was sent off.

Madrid held on to the advantage secured by Yan Diomande. CBS Sports said Vinicius subsequently posted an apology to his teammates and supporters on Instagram.

CBS Sports said Mourinho's next media appearance is scheduled for Tuesday ahead of Madrid's away Champions League match against Roma. The game is due to take place in Rome on Wednesday. He coached the Italian club from 2021 until January 2024 and won the Conference League with it in 2022.
