Remains of Yulia Osdjan, missing after Cyprus ferry disaster, identified

Russia’s embassy in Cyprus told TASS that the identification of Yulia Osdjan’s remains had been completed. She had been missing since a ferry sank off the island’s northern coast in August.
The diplomatic mission said it had received confirmation from the Turkish Cypriot authorities that the identification procedure was complete. The remains belong to Yulia Osdjan, the embassy said. The mission’s press service provided the information to TASS. The identification closes the case of a Russian woman who had been listed as missing after the maritime disaster in late August.
The Filo JET ferry sank on August 30 while traveling from Kyrenia to Mersin. There were 267 people on board. Local authorities reported deaths and missing passengers on the day of the disaster. Russia’s embassy in Nicosia initially said no Russian citizens were among those killed or the passengers who sought medical assistance.
The diplomatic mission later clarified that two Russian women had been on board. One was rescued, while the other was listed as missing. Her identity was confirmed through a procedure carried out by the Turkish Cypriot authorities. The embassy’s statement, relayed by TASS, identified the woman as Yulia Osdjan. Earlier international reports on the disaster confirmed that the ferry sank off Cyprus’s northern coast with hundreds of people on board.
