Reuters: OpenAI accelerates $30 billion round ahead of expected Anthropic IPO
OpenAI is seeking to raise about $30 billion before Anthropic’s expected stock market debut in mid-November, Reuters reported, citing sources. The ChatGPT developer could be valued at more than $1.4 trillion.
The sources said the compressed timetable partly reflected competition for investor capital. OpenAI also wants to capitalise on revenue growth following the release of new models.
One source told Reuters that existing investors, including Japan’s SoftBank Group and Abu Dhabi-based MGX, were in talks to participate. The round remains under discussion, with neither the proceeds nor the valuation announced as a completed transaction.
Investors familiar with the company said the capital was needed for infrastructure spending and to strengthen its finances. The funding would provide a cushion if deteriorating market conditions forced OpenAI to delay its own IPO, planned for next year.
