Reuters: WEF could choose Lagarde as chair as early as November

The World Economic Forum could appoint Christine Lagarde as its next chair as early as November, Reuters reported, citing four sources. No final decision has been taken.
The sources said the WEF's Board of Trustees, which includes Lagarde, could consider her appointment. They described broad support for her candidacy but cautioned that election was not certain.
Lagarde has previously said she would remain at the ECB until next year without committing to stay until the formal end of her term. The ECB declined to comment on Reuters' report.
The agency's sources linked a possible early departure to agreeing on a new ECB president before France's spring 2027 presidential election. Reuters named former Dutch and Spanish central bank governors Klaas Knot and Pablo Hernández de Cos as possible successors.
Larry Fink and André Hoffmann currently co-chair the WEF's board. The organisation's annual meeting in Davos takes place in January 2027.
A WEF spokesperson did not confirm the date of the next full board meeting, saying the aim was to hold one before the end of the year.
