Moscow hospital reports child's arm recovery after repeat elbow surgery

A boy aged 10 regained free movement in his arm three months after repeat elbow surgery at Moscow's Kommunarka clinical centre, the city's Health Department reported on October 16.
The boy arrived at Kommunarka's children's hospital with severe pain and swelling. He had previously been treated at a regional hospital, where bone fragments were secured with pins and a screw.
According to the Health Department, the fixation device subsequently failed under load. Kommunarka doctors first reduced the swelling and then performed another operation.
Anton Neverov, head of traumatology and orthopaedics, said surgeons reassembled and securely fixed all the bone fragments.
The child underwent rehabilitation with gradual removal of the support devices. Three months later, the department said, he had returned to his usual activities.
