The Benedict Canyon property once occupied by Ricky Martin and Michael Caine changed hands for $35 million after its original asking price was cut by $40 million.
The deal closed on December 30, about four months after the home was listed in August 2025 for $75 million. The asking price was later reduced to just under $50 million. The buyer has not been identified. Realtor.com and Mansion Global reported that Compass agent Carl Gambino represented both sides.
The 2.37-acre estate is in the Benedict Canyon neighbourhood and was built in 1956. The family of actor Doris Day lived there before the property passed to Michael Caine. Singer Ricky Martin occupied the home from 2004 to 2006, then sold it to Freeport LNG chief executive Michael Smith and his wife, Iris, for $15 million.
The main residence has six bedrooms. The grounds also include a guesthouse, a lighted tennis court and pavilion, a children’s play area, and a separate security house. Other features include a private home theatre, a pool and a motor court with room for up to 20 cars.
The listing highlighted the property’s privacy, landscaped grounds and views of the city and ocean. The primary suite opens onto a terrace overlooking the coast. Despite the estate’s celebrity history and extensive renovation, it did not sell at its original $75 million asking price.
