Rospotrebnadzor chief urges travelers to assess infection risks abroad

Anna Popova, head of Russia’s consumer health watchdog, urged people to check the epidemiological situation in countries they plan to visit.

In an interview with RIA Novosti, Popova said conditions remain tense in many countries. She cited malaria, typhoid, Zika, dengue and chikungunya as diseases found abroad.

“Infectious diseases exist around the world, and of course we should always keep that in mind, especially when traveling abroad,” Popova said. She stressed that travelers should consider these risks while planning a trip.

Russia recorded about 500 imported cases of dangerous infectious diseases in 2026, she said. None led to further spread inside the country.
