Rostov lawmakers approve free legal assistance for teachers

Teachers in Rostov Region will be entitled to free legal assistance on matters related to their work. Regional lawmakers supported amendments establishing the right on October 14.

Assembly Speaker Alexander Ishchenko said the assistance would cover teachers' employment rights, social guarantees and access to support measures. The amendments concern the regional law on free legal assistance.

The measure follows earlier regional support for teachers. In September, lawmakers amended the culture law to allow teachers to visit state-run regional museums free of charge.

Separately, the assembly adopted legislation on vocational training and additional education for participants in Russia's military operation. Regional educational institutions will be able to train them through employment-centre referrals based on employers' requests, with subsequent job placement.

Veterans successfully completing the training may also receive specified support from employers. Ishchenko cited salary supplements, a one-off allowance and housing as examples. The announcement does not establish an identical benefits package for every graduate.

The speaker said an additional 10.4 billion rubles from the regional budget was planned to fulfil social guarantees for participants in the military operation. This is planned funding rather than payments already made.
