Rostov lawmakers approve fuel sales restrictions for minors without driving licences

Lawmakers in Russia's Rostov region have approved amendments restricting motor fuel sales to minors who have no legal right to drive. The regional legislature's press service reported the decision on October 14.
The ban will not affect teenagers who have reached sixteen and obtained the right to operate the relevant vehicle. They will remain able to buy fuel.
The regional prosecutor initiated the amendments.
Legislature speaker Alexander Ishchenko linked the decision to rising road injuries among children. He said crashes involving child motorcyclists in the region had increased by 70% over the past five years. He also referred to motocross motorcycles and pit bikes classified as sports equipment.
The restrictions are scheduled to take effect on March 1, 2027.
