
Authorities in Sindh handed each family 26 million rupees, including financial assistance and funds for a plot of land.
Sindh Governor Nehal Hashmi handed cheques to the families of three Pakistanis who died in Somali pirate captivity aboard the hijacked oil tanker MT Honour 25. A Governor House statement said the payments were made on special directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The recipients were the families of Mahmood Ahmed Ansari, Syed Kashif Umar and Rafiullah Khan.
Each family received 26 million rupees. A spokesperson said that included 12.5 million rupees in direct financial assistance and 13.5 million for the purchase of a plot. The prime minister had also announced free housing and education for the deceased men’s children the previous week.
The Governor House said the families thanked the prime minister for the support. Dawn published the report on October 9, 2026.
