US President Donald Trump plans to use up to 60 days to assess the economic impact of new Russia-related sanctions and tariffs, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.

Rubio said the administration would examine the effects on both the global and US economies. He spoke to reporters before a trip to Uzbekistan.

Trump had ordered exemptions from several restrictions under the law targeting Russia and Iran. The legislation provides for tariffs of up to 500 percent on Russian goods and up to 100 percent on goods from the five largest buyers of Russian oil and gas.

Rubio described the 60 days as a review period. The executive order itself sets no expiry date for the exemptions, while previously imposed US sanctions on Russia remain in force.
