Russia asks OPCW for help seeking German response on alleged chemical incidents

Russia has received no response from Germany to a request for information about chemical incidents mentioned by Ukraine, Moscow’s envoy to the OPCW, Vladimir Tarabrin, said. Russia has asked the organisation’s Executive Council to help clarify the matter.

Tarabrin said the requests were made to Germany and countries that joined its initiative under Article IX of the Chemical Weapons Convention. Moscow sought clarification on what information they had about incidents cited in Ukrainian diplomatic notes.

RIA Novosti quoted the envoy as making the statement during a closed session of the OPCW Executive Council. Tarabrin also said Russia had asked the council to assist in clarifying the circumstances.

The council’s 113th session is taking place in The Hague from October 6 to 9, according to the OPCW calendar.
