Russia’s chief justice visits Smart Court laboratory in Beijing
Russian Supreme Court Chairman Igor Krasnov visited the Smart Court laboratory at China’s Supreme People’s Court in Beijing, examining digital judicial tools alongside his Chinese counterpart Zhang Jun, RIA Novosti reported.
Krasnov focused on the enforcement of court decisions, asking whether the platform covered judgments that had not yet been enforced.
Zhang said the system distinguished between completed enforcement, cases still being processed and judgments that were difficult to enforce. He cited a case complicated by bankruptcy.
According to the Chinese court chairman, banks provide information on a debtor’s funds, allowing judges to track enforcement. Persistent defaulters are included on a special list.
Krasnov praised the practical focus of the Chinese approach and expressed readiness to develop exchanges between specialists from the countries’ judicial systems.
The laboratory provides a venue for developing, testing and introducing digital judicial technologies. Artificial intelligence tools are used to recognise case materials, search legislation and relevant court decisions, and prepare analytical summaries.
The Beijing laboratory entered operation on December 31, 2019.
