Russia’s London embassy says new UK sanctions restrict access to Russian resources

Russia’s embassy in London said the latest UK sanctions seek to restrict other countries’ access to Russian resources, particularly in the Global South.

On October 8, the UK Foreign Office announced new sanctions against 26 Russian individuals and organisations, including Zarubezhneft and Stolichny Kredit Bank.

RIA Novosti reported that the package also covered 23 companies from Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Canada and Thailand, as well as citizens of Kyrgyzstan, the Netherlands and Russia. The restrictions also targeted 12 vessels that London links to the transport of Russian oil.

In a separate statement, the UK Foreign Office put the total number of new designations in the package at 38. It said the measures target companies and individuals linked to Russian oil, sanctions evasion and military supplies.
