Russian citizen detained in Paraguay over suspected false identity document

Paraguayan police detained Aleksandr Malinko in Itá after an attempt to conduct bank business using an allegedly false identity document. RIA reported the incident on October 14, citing local newspaper La Nación.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 13, at a Banco Nacional de Fomento branch. A bank employee noticed that the document lacked required security features and notified police.

Officers identified the man using the CABIS biometric system. According to the newspaper, an Interpol check found no international arrest warrant. That finding does not end the investigation into the document presented at the bank.

Malinko remained in custody and was referred to the National Police identification department for further checks. The report concerns a detention and investigation, rather than a conviction. It did not disclose the amount or precise type of banking transaction.
