Russian Railways and Armenia to form joint railway working group

Russian Railways chief Oleg Belozyorov and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan agreed to establish a joint working group on railway infrastructure during talks in Yerevan on October 14.

Belozyorov confirmed Russian Railways' intention to meet its obligations under the concession agreement. The company said he also expressed willingness to engage with Armenia's government and jointly assess the concession's effectiveness.

Russian Railways subsidiary South Caucasus Railway operates the country's network under that agreement. The talks covered its performance, infrastructure development and existing management problems.

The Armenian prime minister's office said the participants discussed reconstruction projects for the Gyumri–Akhurik–Turkish border and Yeraskh–Nakhchivan routes. Pashinyan linked them to opportunities to integrate Armenia's network into international transport corridors.

The working group is intended to discuss the identified issues, possible solutions and next steps. The meeting did not announce new construction contracts or the start of services along those routes.
