Sagal Abdi-Wali wins by-election in former Keir Starmer constituency

The Labour candidate received 12,292 votes and will replace the former prime minister in the House of Commons.

Sagal Abdi-Wali won the by-election in London’s Holborn and St Pancras constituency, held on October 8. Official figures from the UK Parliament show that she received 12,292 votes. Green Party candidate Zack Polanski came second with 8,928.

Abdi-Wali leads Camden Council and came to Britain from Somalia as a child refugee. The seat became vacant after Keir Starmer left Parliament in September.

The Associated Press reported that Abdi-Wali won about 45% of the vote, while Polanski received nearly 33%. He said the defeat would not make him step down as Green Party leader.
