Salvini announces plans for 500 more troops in Milan
Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini has announced plans to send 500 additional troops to Milan after street unrest. The deployment is expected to form part of a forthcoming security package.
Reuters reported that the troops would reinforce security following clashes with police, shop looting and property damage over the weekend. ANSA also reported Salvini's announcement of an additional military contingent.
Giorgia Meloni's government is preparing measures following unrest in several Italian cities. Earlier reports said government legal offices had been asked to examine options for tightening rules aimed at preventing street violence.
The deployment is expected to be included in a package due before the cabinet on Tuesday, 20 October, according to Reuters.
