Sergey Nekrasov makes trophies Spartak’s main priority

Spartak general director Sergey Nekrasov said winning trophies was his main measure of the club leadership’s success in an interview with Sport-Express.

Asked to choose between sporting success and financial profit, Nekrasov preferred trophies supported by the necessary investment. He stressed the strength of competition in Russian football and the club’s obligations to its supporters.

He said winning something every year would be the decisive assessment of management, the coaching staff and the sporting department. In another hypothetical choice, he preferred ten consecutive RPL titles to one European trophy, explaining that domestic honours were already available to pursue.

A question about signing Lamine Yamal was also hypothetical. Nekrasov said he would back coach Carcedo’s sporting choice but favour a loan. The interview did not announce negotiations or an actual transfer.

Spartak won the FONBET Russian Cup in May 2026, beating Krasnodar in the superfinal. After a 1–1 draw, Spartak won the penalty shootout 4–3. The club’s most recent league title came in the 2016/17 season.
