Sevastopol bank employee sentenced for stealing deposits worth 24 million rubles

She received a five-year prison term and a fine; the sentence was deferred until her child turns 14.

A bank employee in Sevastopol was sentenced to five years in a general-regime penal colony for stealing deposits and funds from the bank worth more than 24 million rubles. The court deferred the sentence until her child turns 14 and also imposed a 120,000-ruble fine, the city prosecutor’s office said.

The woman worked as a manager at a bank operations office and persuaded customers to open deposits, investigators said. She then forged documents and transferred the money to her own account. From 2016 to 2022, she took funds from 22 customers and the bank. The scheme came to light after a customer asked to withdraw a deposit.

The prosecutor’s office said she was convicted under three Criminal Code provisions related to large- and especially large-scale theft from a bank account. Interfax reported that the verdict has not yet entered into legal force. The bank reimbursed customers for their losses in full.
